My wife and I moved to Mt Pleasant in 2005. Our reasons to move here included nice weather, proximity to the beach, and housing affordability. Potential detractors at that time included the low level of bike/pedestrian pathways and the confusing mix of Mt Pleasant and Charleston county properties on adjacent parcels (“donut holes”). Since we were retiring from the military, proximity to the Air Force and Navy bases were important to us. The historic nature of the Charleston area, shopping options both in Mt Pleasant and nearby, and the vibrant restaurant scene were also important considerations. Since we have no school age children school quality was a consideration only for the impact it has on real estate prices. Residential insurance availability was a concern but not a deterrent at that time, it is still a concern now for future resale considerations.
